Should you switch your life insurance to Beagle Street?

Written by Ines Pena

Sometimes your life changes, but your life insurance policy doesn’t. It might mean it’s time for a switch.

When you first take out a life insurance policy, the amount of cover you decide on and the premiums you agree to pay should be the right fit for you. But as life insurance policies last for a number of years, it’s likely that your life will change quite a bit during that time.

Why would I change life insurance providers?

People often change providers because their current provider no longer suits their needs.

For example, if you’ve had more children or taken out a mortgage since opening your policy you might need a larger amount of cover and therefore want to find a provider that offers this level at a cost you can afford.

Or, if your income has gone down or your expenses have gone up, you might need a policy with a lower premium even if you don’t need a bigger payout.

Some providers cover certain medical conditions, whereas others might not. So, if you’re renewing your life insurance policy, you might need to move to another provider.

Others switch provider because they support the provider’s values, such as if the provider is part of a mutual society, like Beagle Street is.

Or you might be attracted by the features the provider offers, like terminal illness cover as standard or support writing a will, or the fact that the provider has a strong track record of paying out when a claim is made.

For others, it could be the offer of a £100 gift card and soft toy!

How can I switch life insurance providers?

Your life insurance policy works like a rolling monthly contract. To switch life insurance providers, you’ll have to apply for a new policy and cancel your original one.

It's important that you apply for a new policy and wait until you’re accepted before cancelling your current policy. This is so you don’t risk not having cover while you’re between providers.

There may be charges for cancelling your policy, you should be able to find out by reading your policy documents or by simply calling your provider.
