"I prioritised getting life insurance to protect my daughter, despite the cost-of-living crisis and rising bills."

I hadn’t considered taking out life insurance until I became ill last December, which made me think about Aurora’s future if anything were to happen to me. Thankfully I got better, but, particularly as a single parent, I realised the importance of making sure Aurora will always be safe and protected.
I caught Covid-19 just before Christmas and became very sick with the virus. At one point, I had a really low moment and thought “that’s it, I’m going to die”. I worried about Aurora being left with no-one and no way of looking after herself when she reaches sixteen. So, once I became well again, I looked into taking out life insurance.
I did have a policy through work, but it is worth just four times my salary, which isn’t much when I took everything into account. That’s why I decided to take out £500,000 worth of life insurance with Beagle Street. Obviously, I’m still here and plan on being here for a long time, but now I have peace of mind that, if anything were to happen, Aurora would be well looked after.
Like everyone I’m feeling the effects of the cost-of-living crisis, but now having life insurance is an absolute priority for me. I’ve had to cut back on some expenses, with the high prices of food and energy, and of course had to fit the cost of the policy into that, but in the long-term it is definitely worth it. I would do it all over again.
Aurora is so creative and loves arts and crafts. She makes outfits for her Barbies, draws and paints – we have her artwork hanging up in the house. We enjoy doing DIY together too. As a single mum everything that needs to be done around the house, I do – building IKEA furniture, painting, putting up the TV. I’ve learnt a lot of skills and we’re decorating the house together as we go. Aurora is my pride and joy and together we have a little 13-year-old Pekingese dog called Mango. Aurora also has two guinea pigs – Tom and Gerald. She’s in charge of looking after them, feeding them, making sure they have enough hay - they’re the chores she has to do.
Aurora and I love travelling together, over the last couple of years we’ve been to Italy and Jamaica. Later this year we’re going on holiday to Morocco and we absolutely cannot wait. Things have been difficult over the last year or so with me catching Covid and then the passing of one of our dogs, so Aurora is really looking forward to it. We love experiencing new things together and want to explore Marrakech, ride a camel and might try sand surfing!
We’re really looking forward to all the adventures we’ll go on together and having that life insurance has really put my mind at ease to know that Aurora will always be safe and supported.
