Celebrity first dances: Inspirational wedding songs from our fave celebs6 August, 2015
The first dance at a wedding is the ultimate expression of love isn’t it? It’s such a romantic moment to witness a moment where you see right into the heart and soul of the happy couple as their song has such meaning to them and the life they’ve built together.
Last year Spotify released a list naming the top 10 wedding dance songs from all around the world. It was fab to see a wedding music list with such modern tracks on – as well as each chosen song being super romantic of course! The top 10 even included my own first dance song ‘You Are The Best Thing’ by Ray Lamontagne.
Great lists like that are always handy for brides and grooms planning their first dances, and especially if they don’t have their own favourite or even first dance appropriate song. So where else might you seek wedding music inspiration from? Well, celebrities of course!
So here’s my top 10 list of songs that ‘just married’ celebrities danced, cried and swooned along to on their very own big days. And yes, they are just like us, when it comes to romance and their taste in wedding music that is…
10. Somewhere Over The Rainbow
At no.10 is uber gorgeous marrieds, Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds with ‘Somewhere Over The Rainbow’. A totally nostalgic choice and a song that dreams are made of… Blake and Ryan were also lucky enough to have their celeb friend Florence Welch from Florence + The Machine perform this for them. Sweet
9. Your Song
At no.9 we have Kate and Wills not putting a royal foot wrong. They chose a song that would resonate with older and younger generations alike. ‘Your Song’ originally written and performed by Sir Elton John before being re-recorded and released by Ellie Goulding was the perfect first dance choice. Ms Goulding performed this song on their wedding day too.
8. What A Wonderful World
No.8 is a super sweet song and absolutely perfect as a first dance choice – whether you are a mere mortal or a super star celebrity. Nicole Richie and Joel Madden chose the v. romantic ‘What A Wonderful World’ by Louis Armstrong. All together now. ‘We have all, the time, in the world…’.
7. Last Night On Earth
No.7 is ‘Last Night on Earth’ by Green Day. This alternative wedding song was chosen by social media guru Mark Zuckerberg and his now wife Priscilla Chan. My beating heart belongs to you. I walked for miles til I found you. Great words.
6. Let’s Stay Together
At no.6 is Kris Humphries and Kim Kardashian with ‘Let’s Stay Together’ by Al Green – this iconic song might not hold the best memories for the now ex-couple, but it really is a classic first dance wedding song, sang beautifully by the soulful Al Green.
5. If There Is Something
No.5 is Kate Moss and Jamie Hince. They chose ‘If There Is Something’ by Roxy Music – a quirky little number (of course) we wouldn’t expect anything less from Mr & Mrs Hince.
4. I Have Nothing
At no.4 is the recently wed Mark Wright and Michelle Keegan. According to reports, Mark burst into tears whilst dancing with Michelle to Whitney Houston’s ‘I Have Nothing’. The couple then surprised their wedding guests with a full on ‘Dirty Dancing’ routine to Time Of My Life – lift and all!
3. Crazy Right Now
At no.3 Beyonce and Jay Z danced to their very own song, and also their first collaboration. (Got Me Looking So) Crazy Right Now. In all fairness. I bet they totally nailed it. If you’re inspired by this energetic celebrity first dance song, just remember, the Beyonce booty shaking moves are purely optional…
2. At Last, These Arms Of Mine, and Tenderness
No.2 sees the second listing of Kim Kardashian (at least she has great taste in music!) Being Kim Kardashian and Kanye West you could never be happy with only one first dance song. It was reported that Kimye had a medley of first dance songs starting with Etta James ‘At Last’ mixed with Otis Redding ‘These Arms Of Mine’ and then ending with ‘Tenderness’.
1. At Last
At no.1 we have the most popular celebrity wedding first dance song ever! ‘At Last’ by Etta James was not only chosen by Kim and Kanye but was also the choice of many fellow celebrity couples… Chelsea Clinton and Marc Mezvinsky, Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban, Kiss bassist Gene Simmons and long term girlfriend Shannon Tweed and Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore.
So there you have it – my celebrity top 10 wedding songs. The only difference between them and us is… we don’t (usually) have the same clout or money to have the singer / song writers actually perform…
